The California State Athletic Commission on July 3, 2007, stated that fighter Phil Baroni had tested positive for Boldenone Metabolite and Stanozolol Metabolite following his Strikeforce main event bout with Frank Shamrock on June 22. He was subsequently fined $2,500 and suspended for one year.

Boldenone and Stanozolol are common anabolic steroids that are banned from athletic competition in California.

Baroni went before the commission on Tuesday to appeal and subsequently had his suspension reduced to six months. With the penalty being retroactive to the night of the bout, he will be eligible to fight again after Dec. 22. His fine was upheld.

“I take this as a loss. I never did steroids,” said Baroni following the hearing.

I gotta say, I would really like to see more of the info on the testing that goes into Boldenone positives. Even Royce Gracie tested positive for it, and that's one guy how doesn't look like a steroid user. Mind you, Phil Baroni does look like a user and testing postive for two different types can't be good, but I'd really like to see more of the scientific literature on how those tests work.

Not surprising, it's like a known secret among bodybuilder. But his recent fights sucks...

Give me a friggin' break. It's SO obvious that Phil Baloney was on juice; you could see his Gyno (bitch tits) at the weigh ins. This guy is a former bodybuilder and a total juice freak. The test was accurate. Plus, he sucks as a fighter. He gets knocked out almost every time he fights, but still this dope actually thinks he's good. Phil must live in a world of delusions, how else can a guy keep coming back to get his ass kicked and have so much confidence when he sucks balls so bad?

As for Royce, he juiced too. I think he was clean before but was looking for an edge against Sakuraba. He had put on about 13 lbs in a short time and all of a sudden had traps and shoulders; I knew something was up. Even his own family members noticed it. Afterwards he was disgraced and went on an extended vacation. They aren't the only guys; almost everybody was using but just beating the tests or they weren't tested. Some guys are starting to clean up now though (like Matt Hughes) but then other guys are starting to use (like Alvarez) and look what happened there. Use and risk getting caught; or don't use and your opponent does and get your ass kicked. (unless you're fighting a total marshmellow like Phil Baloney).

maybe the age, or the afraid of loosing too much stamina during the fight, so he take the shot...Grace also did it, for the fight against Sakuraba, i think Saku also was caught too. But in UFC sherks was reduced for 6 months and hermes had to be for an year....
