Joachim Hansen was until quite recently a mainstay in the Pride Lightweight division, going 4-2 against top opposition, knocking out both leglock wizard Masakazu Inamari and Chute boxe stand out Luis Azeredo.

Since submitting Jason Ireland on US soil at Pride 33 back in February, things seem to have gone a bit quiet for the Norwegian fighter. However, it seems Hansen has no plans to step away from the fight scene just yet, as he recently took the time to explain.

How’s everything going?

Well, I’m kind of unemployed in MMA but I have just started competing in kickboxing now, I had my first tournament one week ago. I made third place in the Scandinavian Open, gonna have another kickboxing tournament in two weeks and hit the boxing scene again and, this autumn, get as many professional boxing fights as I can.

... Maybe also try to do some kyokushin karate tournaments and prepare for my next MMA fight which will be after my [Pride] contract ends on 31st December this year. Then I can negotiate with more organisations… until then, I’ll do the best in the situation and just compete in what I can back in Norway.

So you are still bound by a Pride contract?

I’m under contract with Pride/UFC, I’m navigating my own place in the MMA world now mostly from the Sherdog forum: rumours - I don’t know anything, I don’t hear anything.

It’s OK, I can wait, while I’m waiting I will just do my best in the situation and compete in whatever martial art I can to stay warm and when the contract ends, it ends – I should have 4 more fights for Pride or UFC, I don’t know, there’s nothing I can do.

Have you spoken to the UFC at all?

They offered me a fight some months ago – I wasn’t sure if they had bought Pride for what the hell was going on. They offered me a fight against Marcus Aurelio, they offered me half the salary of what I got in Pride. Obviously at the time they had already bought Pride, in my opinion they also bought my contract, so how can they offer me half the salary?

Too much funny things going on, I don’t really want to play games so you know, I’m out in the cold and I’ll make the best out of the situation with kickboxing, boxing and other stuff – and hopefully I’ll be signing a new contract with another organisation, maybe Cage Rage, Heroes or something, I don’t know… and I’ll try to get back on track again.

Have you got anything to add for your fans?

I want to thank everybody in the internet world, on the forums, who supports me. It means a lot to me and I train hard, really hard; I’m not lazy and I’m not giving up yet. I’m still pretty young – I’m not so pretty, but I’m young (laughs) I’ll be back and do my best again.

resumindo...

::what?::
